As second generation South Asian Americans, we are
constantly forging a blended identity of Eastern and
Western values, ideals, interests, and passions. Its
part of our upbringing, our social instinct. The
near infinite sub cultures that fall under the
overarching South Asian umbrella provide variety and intrigue,
but are often silo-ed into individual community organizations in the
real world. In colleges across the nation, however, these sub cultures
come together as students forge a well balanced East/West mix. Project
Remix aims to facilitate and extend this assimilation beyond the walls of
individual colleges and into the real world...(read more)
Media Center
As with any culture, the performing arts are a core piece of the South Asian Identity. From traditional Punjabi Bhangra to contemporary Fusion and Hindi Film acts, performance groups across the country define and redefine our cultural identity each and every day. The Cultural Media Center is a common utility that organizes existing performance media in an easily accessible format, so that teams can break out of their geographical silos and receive more diverse, national, exposure.
Team Innovate
The South Asian community is a collection of exceptionally talented individuals that have deep knowledge of specific disciplines. While this specific knowledge can be useful, it often intimidates and discourages others from discussing or exploring the topic. Team Innovate aims to promote and develop cross-disciplinary understanding by generating articles that provide simple, fundamental introductions to complex topics ranging from neurobiology to high finance.
Team Rebuild
Team Rebuild is creating a database of volunteer and aid organizations active in the Unitesd States. Organizations and events will be categorized based on geography to give you easy ways to get involved in your area! In the long term, Team Rebuild aims to organize its and fund projects where we feel we can make a difference.
As people go through school or start their post – education life, managing personal finances becomes an essential component of a healthy lifestyle. While its easy to just get a direct deposit and not worry too much about what to do with that hard earned cash, its not necessarily the most prudent course of action. Whether its keeping track of those extra credit cards, refusing to buy that cool gadget you don’t really need, or taking a budget vacation instead of a trip to Europe, money (or the lack thereof) is unfortunately a reality we all have to deal with...
Medicine, Engineering, and Business. As members of the South Asian community, we tend to understand these three professions quite well. Rarely, however, do we take some time to take a closer look at and learn more about other niche career paths. Fashion, takes us inside a very public and glam profession and gives us the details of the modeling industry, filled with love, drama, and good girls gone bad.
Often times we try to escape from life’s daily pressures by watching a movie, hopefully finding ourselves engrossed in a storyline filled with quandaries far more intriguing and fantastical than our own. Sometimes these characters become so real and lifelike we wonder if one could actually meet someone as cynical or crazy or happy. Delhi-6 misses on the former, and hits on the latter, with tremendous character development being overshadowed by a lack of clear direction. Abhishek’s cinematic endeavor falls short, as we wind up with well developed characters that are all dressed up with nowhere to go.
From London, we arrived at Paris Nord (the central train station) a little after 1 pm, bought a metro pass, and hopped on the (pretty filthy) metro towards Montmartre. We decided to stay in Montmartre because it's more low key than the center city and has a long history of artists who lived and painted there (Picasso, Dali, Van Gogh). Our hostel was called Le Montclair Montmartre, a decent walk from the metro stop. It was much more trendy than our hostel in London, with pastel colored walls and artsy wall dressings. This time we were in a 4-bed dorm room with a private bathroom. We dropped our bags in the room and headed straight for Notre Dame...
We tend to think that Bollywood is often synonymous with love stories, but recently the industry has started to perfect a different genre of films, emphasizing the disastrous nature of terrorism. In the last few years, terrorism and heinous acts of violence have become a fixture in the news, media, and political debate. Indeed, individual acts of terror and their frequency have increased the awareness of a growing pandemic of hatred, with no cure in sight. This scary thought is what grips viewers large and small, as the message that ‘no place is a safe place’ is a motif carried in any terror-struck movie. Believe it or not, Bollywood has produced a strong and successful film capturing this motif in the title New York...
